THE WHEELS GO ROUND ’N’ ROUND

- Royal K. Sutton • Dallas, PA

Despite rationing, lack of money, seriously cold winters, and hot and humid summers, my brother Bob, right, and I had plenty of fun on our Wisconsin farm.

Mom’s sister, Aunt Olga, above, came from the big city of Chicago to visit in the summer of ’41. One game that she helped us with was rather dangerous. Bob and I scrunched inside tires, then Aunt Olga gave us a push to start us rolling downhill.

Bob and I climbed anything. With Mom scolding us to “get down from there,” we ascended a rickety wooden ladder to enjoy the view from the top of the garage (page 27).

“My mother had a great deal of trouble

with me, but I think she enjoyed it.”
