RENO - Funeral services for Louis J. Porta will be held on January 6, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Snows Church in Reno. Louis was welcomed into heaven on October 26, 2023. He was born in Loyalton, CA to Mario and Adele Porta on August 27, 1935. The family later moved to Reno, and Louis attended St. Thomas School, and was a member of the class of 1953 at Manogue High School. He enrolled at UN and graduated in 1957. While at UN, he joined Sigma Nu fraternity and later became a member of its Legion of Honor. Following graduation, he joined the Marine Corps Reserves, and after training, he attended the Thunderbir­d School of Internatio­nal Management and graduated in 1959.

Louis worked for Peter Kiewit Sons’ Co. and was assigned to various PKS projects. He also worked for Pacific Contractor­s & Engineers on Kwajalein Island and later in Viet Nam during the war as an administra­tor. He returned to the US and PKS and worked in Montana on the ICBM project, where he met his wife, Carol. When the missile project was cancelled due to SALT II Talks, PKS transferre­d him to another division and projects in the midwest. In 1978, he was transferre­d to southwest Wyoming to the Black Butte Coal Mine where he acted as Business Manager during its constructi­on and operation. He retired in 1993.

In 2000 Louis and Carol moved to Reno and built a house designed by architect son, Matt, and have resided here since then. He was a life-long sports fan. He followed the St. Louis Cardinals from boyhood, and of course, was an avid 49er fan. He coached every 49er game whether in person, on television or on radio.

Louis is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol; his son, Matthew, and his wife, Jana, and their two children, Olivia and Jack; his daughter, Monica, her husband, Robert Brown, and their daughters, Hannah and Miranda; nephews Michael and Mark Green and their children; niece and husband, Cathleen and Joe Chinnici. He was predecease­d by his parents, his two older sisters, Lena Green and Mena Porta.

He is missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
