Great snowstorm struck 70 years ago


Seventy years ago, the Great Appalachia­n Storm of 1950 brought extreme snow and cold to western Virginia. Several days of snowfall began on Nov. 24. Roanoke and points west saw 8 to 12 inches, and up to 30 inches fell near Mount Rogers. Richmond had a dusting.
