Two dead, three hurt in crash on Interstate 81


WOODSTOCK— Virginia State Police said a woman and a boy from Tennessee were dead and three others seriously injured after a single- vehicle crash on Interstate 81.

State police said the crash happened shortly after 11 a. m. Wednesday in Woodstock. According to local news outlets, the vehicle was southbound when it ran off the road and rolled several times.

A 6- year- old boy, who police said was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Carmelita R. Samples, 50, was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries. Both passengers were from Kingsport, Tenn.

Two other passengers, a 41- year- old man and a 31- year- old woman, were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. State police did not release their names.

Authoritie­s said the driver, Brittany A. Toy,

31, of Jackson, Miss., was also seriously injured. State police said she was charged with reckless driving.

State police said the crash remains under investigat­ion.
