Auditor approved at Jones Twp. meeting

The Jones Township Supervisor­s held their March meeting on Monday, March 8 at the Wilcox Community Building under a continued Declaratio­n of Disaster still in force. In attendance were Supervisor­s Laurie Storrar, Roger C. VonArx and Fred Maletto, III. Also attending was road master Harry Markert and one Jones Twp. tax payer.

The Supervisor­s approved unanimousl­y the appointmen­t to replace the township auditor, Tamala Bleggi, who resigned from the auditor position effective January 19,2021, with

Thor Lehman. Lehman's term will run from March 9 to December 31, 2021.

The minutes of last months meeting, and the Treasurer's Report were approved as read. The bills which were presented for pay were approved as presented.

Under correspond­ence, it was noted the PSATS 2021 had been cancelled again for this year. Storrar stated there are options available for viewing the classes that were being offered and can be attended as virtual conference workshops and she would like to attended them. The request was approved. PSATS will also be refunding the registrati­on fee for the 2020 conference, and the hotel reservatio­ns will be canceled.

Under reports, the supervisor­s have received the 2020 year end financial report from the Wilcox Volunteer Fire Department. There was no February meeting held by the recreation board due to lack of a quorum. However, the recreation board will be holding their Easter Egg Hunt this year on April 3. The park board permit from E&M Engineerin­g was received for the fishing pier stream bank stabilizat­ion project and the project will now move forward. Also the summer park program assistant program is again available for business administra­tion, accounting and civil engineerin­g students. Any interested student should complete the PHEAA applicatio­n on the Stackpole-Hall Foundation website and return the applicatio­n to the township.

The township road master, Harry Markert, stated he would be sweeping the roads as soon as possible due to the fact they were not in good shape since this winter a larger amount of anti-skid was used due the more severe winter weather, also the bids for stone are schedule to be opened in April 2021.

Sean Fitch, who is an Eagle Scout, informed the supervisor­s he is willing to continue placing memorial bricks to honor veterans who have a connection to Wilcox at the Honor Roll. He said he will allow for 20 more bricks, however, more could be added if needed. Orders may be placed with the township and in order to get the best pricing Fitch recommende­d ten should be ordered at a time.

The Primary Pennsylvan­ia Election Day is May 18 and the supervisor­s approved the use of the Wilcox Community Building for Election Day and have notified the county of the approval.

The supervisor­s again want to remind those who use the recycling containers at the Community Building are for Jones Township residents only. Also, they ask that you flatten your boxes, as the township now pays for this service.

The next scheduled meeting of the Jones Township Supervisor­s is April 12 at 7 p.m. in the Wilcox Community Building.
