New Pop-Up Shop on Mefferts Run Road coming this weekend
A new pop-up shop will be appearing on Mefferts Run Road, Mefferts Run Mercantile. The shop will be open today and Sunday from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m, and previously were open on Friday during those same hours. Laurie Brady and Linda Wright, who came together and developed the idea of a pop-up shop, talked about what you'll expect to see if you visit it this weekend.
“There will be all kinds of homemade crafts, Christmas items, vintage antique dishes, home decor, and even some smoked cheeses. We’re going to have a lot to offer.”
They went on to discuss how the idea of a pop-up shop first originated, and how they combined their talents to bring the idea to life.
“We’ve both been doing craft shows for at least twenty years,” Brady said, ``and things were wiped out last year so we didn’t do a lot of them, but because of that we thought of doing a pop-up shop because we both enjoy making things.” Brady went on to mention some of the other merchants on Mefferts Run Road that are worth a visit. “You have Wagon Wheel Wines-you have Kurt’s Farm Market that just opened up, and you also can visit the Wilcox Winery, so you can make a day out of it-it’s like destination shopping.”
This type of weekend event brings to light the importance of shopping local for Brady and Wright. “It’s very important for everyone to shop local, because if we don’t, the stores won’t thrive. We need all of the local stores because that supports our local economy.”
Additionally, they reflected on what it’s like to give back and support the area of Elk County. “We’ve both always enjoyed doing that, and I’ve always been a small town girl, Brady said, and it’s important to showcase what you can do-I don’t think people realize how much talent there is in this county.”
