New Hampshire motorcyclist killed in I80 crash last week
CLEARFIELD – A New Hampshire woman operating a motorcycle was killed in a crash resulting from a disabled truck on Interstate 80 in Clearfield County last week.
According to the DuBois-based Pennsylvania State Police, the crash occurred at 3:41 p.m. on June 29 near the mile 107 marker on Interstate 80 in Union Township, Clearfield County.
The crash occurred as a 2015 Grande West Transportation International LTD truck operated by Kevin L. Carter, 40, of Hermitage, Tenn., was traveling west on Interstate 80 near the mile 107 marker and sustained a mechanical issue. Carter attempted to exit the south side of the roadway. However, the truck became disabled partially in the left lane due to the mechanical issue.
A 2020 Peterbilt truck operated by Michael S. Beck Sr., 53, of Clearfield, was traveling a short distance behind Carter's vehicle in the left lane and observed the disabled truck.
A 2014 Victory Motorcycles Cross Country operated by Amy J. Freeman, 59, of Salem, N.H., was traveling in the right lane ahead of Beck's truck but still behind Carter's truck.
Beck struck the right rear side of the trailing unit of Carter's truck with his front driver area. The Peterbilt then traveled into the right lane, striking the motorcycle and forcing both the Peterbilt and the motorcycle off the north side of the roadway.
The Peterbilt came to final rest off the north side of the roadway on the passenger side facing west. The Grande West Transportation International LTD came to final rest at the point of impact, partially in the left lane facing west. The motorcycle came to final rest off the north side of the roadway on the passenger side facing west behind the Peterbilt.
Beck and Carter reported no injuries.
