Skeet shooters attend Father’s Day shoot
During the weekend of Father’s Day, a group of skeet shooters went to compete in a Skeet Shoot at Shenecoy Sportsmen’s Club in Huntingdon.
The group consisted of Adam Vollmer, Chris Kline, Jared Shaffer, Allison Shaffer, and Mark Eckert. The group shot Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of that weekend and had a different event for each day.
On Friday, they shot doubles skeet, which is the same thing as regular skeet shooting, except that there are no single birds. Shooters are shooting at pairs.
On Saturday, they shot a 20-gauge and 28-gauge shoots. This means that they shot the regular skeet but they shot with guns that fell into the specific categories; for the twenty gauges, it was a twenty gauge shotgun, and so on.
On Sunday, they shot a 410 event, which is similar to the Saturday events except in this case the gauge is different. They also had twelvegauge and what was known as High Over All (HOA). The HOA is a place someone takes when they have the highest scores of all of the events. The whole event was called The Elite.
Though they competed in different events, shooters all had the different classes for that event. There are two kinds of classes. The first class is based on skill and is ranked as AAA, AA, A, B, C, and D classes.
The second kind of class is based on the person’s age but also on their gender. There are Veteran, Junior,
Lady 1, and many others.
The weather for the day was sunny but also extremely windy. The wind was so bad that the shooter’s targets moved in the wind making it hard for them to compete. However, despite that, they still managed to do well.
Vollmer and Kline both were in the top ten for all of the classes they competed in and took home a couple of trophies.
“It was a good weekend even with the wind,” Vollmer said.
Vollmer also became one of the top five people of all the events with the people that competed.
“It was a chance to have a family weekend and it was fun,” Kline said.
