- By Amy Cherry Staff Writer

ST. MARYS - A Touch of Nature Massage and Bodywork by Julie LLC recently celebrated its grand opening at its new location at 839 South St Marys Street in St. Marys.

As a nurse of 28 years, Julie Olay said she found herself looking for ways to help people outside the local organized health care system. She opted to start her own massage therapy business in July 2021 and recently re-located to her own space situated in the Kitchen Country plaza, next to McDonald’s, along the Million Dollar Highway in St. Marys.

Olay, a certified licenses massage therapist, works with several chiropractors in the area as they often recommend massage to their clients.

“Massage is great to do along with chiropractic care. It normally makes the chiropractic care easier on your body if your muscles are relaxed,” Olay said.

Among the many benefits of massage Olay cited are decrease muscle tension/ pain, increase range of motion, increase circulation, decrease stress and increase relaxation.

Olay emphasized that massage therapy is a great way to invest in you and your health.

“Our bodies have a way of telling us when we need a break. We just need to listen to what our bodies are telling us,” Olay said. “Basically, take time and invest in our health or your body will thank you.”

Typical massages offered by Olay range in time increments from 30, 45, 60 to 90 minute sessions. Among the types of massages clients can choose from are sports massage, Swedish massage, hot stone massage, medical massage, cupping, cupping with range of motion, pregnancy massage and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, also known as PNF stretching.

Olay’s nursing background also played an integral role in her transitioning to the massage therapy field where she completed 640 hours of massage school, eight hours of basic cupping class, eight hours of advanced cupping with range of motion and eight hours of PNF stretching for athletes. She is looking forward to finding more continuing education classes in order to enhance her training and services to offer.

Olay specializes in sports/athlete massage, as she saw a need for this type of service catered toward local high school athletes. Olay noted that she is easily able to adapt her training to help non-athletes as well as her clients range in age from middle school students to senior citizens.

While Olay is a sole owner/operator of the business, she partners with fellow massage therapist Jessie Donachy of Shedding

Knots by Jessie LLC in offering couples massages.
