Music Bingo fundraiser to be held at the Ridgway Elks

- By Jake Mercer Staff Writer

RIDGWAY- The Ridgway Parks Revitalization Committee (RPRC) in conjunction with the Ridgway Elks will be hosting ‘music bingo’ as a fundraiser to go towards making improvements to the West End Park on February 18 at 6 p.m.

Each bingo will highlight a different music era, and prizes will be available to winners due to the generosity of the community. Donations will be accepted during bingo.

There will also be a basket raffle, 50/50, and specialty-themed drinks served throughout the night. The basket raffle will be set up on February 12 and that is also the deadline to drop off basket raffle donations along with the sale of the tickets.

Tickets for the basket raffle are available for those who are not present at the music bingo event.

Beth Horning of the RPRC contacted Marty Fannin and Karen Herzing of the Ridgway Elks to try to come up with creative ideas for a fundraiser. After doing a music bingo ‘trial run’ that was a huge hit, the trio decided to go forward with an official event.

Horning said that the Ridgway Elks have provided the guidance to hold a successful event.

They have also provided the tickets for the fundraiser.

Formed in July of 2022, the RPRC aimed to revitalize the three town parks in Ridgway to make improvements to the equipment and tend to other pressing needs that had to be addressed in the three parks.

Phase one of the efforts of the committee have been completed, as Horning shared that the monies have been raised and the plans are in place to revitalize the North Broad Street Park. This will include having new play equipment there, new fencing, a new pavilion, a privacy wall, and a picnic table that will be installed this spring. Labor costs are also accounted for in these funds.

Phase two will be dedicated towards raising money for West End Park to update play equipment, upgrading the baseball and basketball court, and removing dangerous trees.

West End Park is also set to receive a bathroom with an attached shed this summer, and sidewalks will also be improved.

The final phase will include raising money for Olson Park to update play equipment, updating the baseball and basketball courts, and new picnic tables and a pavilion. One of the more intriguing new additions is having an exercise station at the park as well as a walking track.

The RPRC greatly appreciates any continued donations and are thankful for the community support they have received since their formation.
