The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division raises more than $2M during Red Kettle Campaign

PITTSBURGH The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division raised more than $2 million during this year’s Red Kettle Campaign. The $2,031,196 raised is approximately 89 percent of the Division’s 2.294 million goal. In Allegheny County, The Salvation Army raised approximately $458,281, which is 81 percent of the County’s $565,500 goal.

The annual Red Kettle Campaign supports families and individuals across 28 counties, and ensures The Salvation Army can continue its critical services including feeding programs, rent and utility assistance, seasonal assistance, youth empowerment and spiritual programs. The organization faced challenges due to the ongoing impacts of inflation and significantly cold weather conditions during the last couple days of the Christmas campaign. Despite the challenges, community members stepped up to ensure The Salvation Army can continue to serve those who need it, all year long.

“We are thankful for the support during our most critical fundraising time of the year,” Major Gregory Hartshorn, Divisional Commander, The Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division said. “While we lost the two biggest days of kettle income on December 23 and 24 due to the severe weather, we want to thank those who made special gifts in the last minute to help close the gap. We are grateful for all who dropped a donation in a kettle, donated digitally, or gave their time as a volunteer bell ringer.”

Every donation placed in a red kettle goes directly back into the community where it is received. The following locations experienced a larger than expected shortfall, raising less than 75 percent of individual goals, and are in need of continued support and donations: Aliquippa, Allegheny Valley, Beaver Falls, Jeannette, Johnstown, McKeesport, Venango County, Sharon, Washington and Pittsburgh’s Westside.
