Ridgway Public Library gets kids ready for Groundhog Day

-

RIDGWAY - The Groundhog Day program was held recently at the Ridgway Public Library (RPL) to get kids ready for this year's upcoming Groundhog Day festivities and traditions.

Miss Tia, the children's librarian, read "Over and Under the Snow" by Kate Messner, and discussed animal hibernation in our region.

Following the story, they made their own groundhog stuffed animals to take home. More programs like this will be coming throughout the year. Registration is posted on the library's website at www.ridgwaylibrary.org.

Upcoming library programs/meetings:

Teen Takes: Available for students in grades 6-12. A new kit drops monthly on the first day of the month.

This month, we are making heart crystal ornaments. Part craft, part STEM learning, this project is perfect for ages 10 and up. Teen Takes kits can be found in the library lobby.

Story Time: 10:30 a.m. Available for birth – 6 Years. Our Story Times are 45–60-minute programs held Tuesday and Wednesday each week. They are designed to introduce young children (and their grownups) to books and promote a lifelong love of reading through sensory exploration, art, movement, and play.

Kids Take-andMake Craft: Every Friday a new craft or activity will be available in the library lobby for young creators.

Head Start Story Time: Friday, February 3rd at 10:00 a.m. The first Friday of each month, the Ridgway

Head Start Class will have story time in the Children’s Room. The program will feature stories and crafts and help introduce children to the library.

Family Story Time – Seed Paper Valentines: This month at RPL we are learning about friendship, kindness, and love. For this month’s family story time, we will be reading The More You Give by Marcy Campbell and talk about the way our acts of kindness and love impact the world around us. Next, we will make seed paper valentines. Gift the valentine to someone you love and, in the spring, that person can plant wildflowers to help make our community even more beautiful. Featuring a longer story time and a bigger activity or craft, Family Story Time is a great way to spend time together as a family -- reading, creating, and getting to know your local library.

Board Meeting: The February Ridgway Free Library Association Board Meeting will take place on February 15th at 7 p.m. Contact Rachel at library_director@ridgwaylibrary.org for location and additional information.

Book Club: The RPL book club is for anyone 18 years or older. Book club meets February 15 at 4:30 p.m. A library card is required. Call the library if you are interested in joining.
