Ridgway Township Municipal Authority holds February meeting

- By Brian D. Stockman Staff Writer

RIDGWAY--The Ridgway Township Municipal Authority (RTMA) held its February meeting on Thursday beginning at 7 p.m. at the Ridgway Township offices.

The short meeting quickly decided on several items ranging from correspondence on sewer meters from Ridgway Borough to Employee Health and Life insurance.

In a letter dated January 20 from Ridgway Borough, they requested installing sewer flow meters in locations throughout the township. While the RTMA board was accepting the meters, several questions arose regarding whether the borough had meters on its system, which is intertwined with the township based on the geographic boundaries of Ridgway Township, which surrounds the entire borough. It was decided to prepare to place the meters in the spring but seek answers from the borough regarding its meters and if trucked-in wastewater is calculated as part of the total at the sewage treatment plant.

Under the meeting's Financial and Payment of Bills portion, the RTMA approved the PENNVEST request for audited financials from 2018-2021 as part of their standard procedure. Financials were quickly approved, as well as payment of the bills with no changes needed.

Public Works Superintendents Andrew Gosnell and Chris Klase reported completing the monthly coliform and chlorine residual tests with no violations observed. They also provided services for a private sewer grinder pump at the A. Buehler residence.

They also reported that they are working with National Fuel and Gas and Allegheny Contracting to complete PA ONE CALL pre-construction meetings on the gas main replacement project in the Boot Jack Area. A water meter pit was also installed at the Tutton property located on Hillcrest Drive.

Two liens were taken out against properties on Grant Road in the Township for nonpayment of bills. The total amount in arrears from the properties is $309.05 and $251.85, respectively.

The RTMA's Engineering Firm of Stiffler, McGraw & Associates is requesting a sit-down meeting with Ridgway Borough regarding installing meters and sharing sewer and water lines throughout the township system.

The employees of RTMA will have new health and life insurance beginning in March. The new company is Members Benefit Services and is 5% less expensive than the current UPMC insurance and, according to the employees, provides better benefits and smaller co-pays. The switch to Members Benefit Services will save the RTMA approximately $1,100 yearly in direct costs. The employees picked the Performance Blue Select Plan and are looking forward to the new benefits.

The next meeting of the RTMA will take place on March 2, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Ridgway Township offices located at 1537A Montmorenci Road in Ridgway. The public is welcome to attend.
