Ridgway Recreational Association meets with committee from Ridgway Borough
RIDGWAY- On February 8, Gary Gerber, who is the chairman of the Ridgway Recreational Association (RRA) met with the Ridgway Borough’s Planning, Grants, and Recreation committee.
Gerber met with this committee to request assistance from the borough to maintain the Ridgway Skate Park.
In Gerber’s presentation, he stated that the RRA can not maintain the skate park presently like they have in the past.
As a result, Gerber is looking for the borough to declare the skate park as a dedicated borough park in order to receive further support for efforts to maintain it.
In the meeting, it was established that the RRA currently owns, funds, and operates the park, and that the borough allows the park to be on borough property to cover the venue liability.
In the original proposal issued, it was determined that the recreational space would have enough support from volunteers and community donations to be self-sustained.
In the borough meeting Monday night, councilwoman Abbi Peters stated that the borough is currently looking to find ways to make the skatepark more sustainable going forward.
Peters serves as the chair of the Planning, Grants, and Recreational Committee.
Gerber also inquired about the borough providing $30,000 to replace worn ramps and jumps at the park, along with regular yard maintenance and refuse collection.
It was decided that the committee would like to meet with Gerber at another time to map out a plan to see what ways the municipality can help in the short and long term, but shared that they are unable to operate a skate park but could potentially assist with maintenance duties.
Overall, the two parties will continue further discussion to reach a common ground to support the Ridgway Skate Park.
