Elk County Donation Station open and accepting donations beginning today

- By Becky Polaski Staff Writer

The start of softball and baseball season is quickly approaching, and beginning today, the Elk County Donation Station is once again open for the season to accept gently used items and provide equipment for players in need.

The Elk County Donation Station was started by Matt and Deanna Eozzo of St. Marys five years ago, and they not only accept donations of items at their home but also organize all of the donated items so that they are readily available for those who need them.

“We’ve never kept track of how many kids we’ve helped over the last five years, but the amazing support and comments we receive from the community are what keeps us going,” the Eozzos said.

Beginning today, anyone interested in donating softball or baseball equipment can do so by placing it in the clearly marked bin at 1110 South Michael Street in St. Marys. The bin, which is clearly marked “Donation Station,” will only be available for donations on Wednesdays this year.

Items for donation can also be placed into donation cans located at Beimel Softball and Baseball in St. Marys.

Anyone in need of items is asked to contact the Eozzos through the Elk County Donation Station Facebook page. Items can be picked up on weekdays by appointment only.

“We currently have a lot of cleats, helmets, and quite a few bat bags available,” the Eozzos said.

While all baseball and softball items are accepted as donations, there are a few that are specifically being sought.

“We are looking for cleats in size 11 (children’s), and sizes 5-8. We are also in need of fielding masks,” the Eozzos said.

The Elk County Donation Station typically remains open through the end of May.

“Everything we have is from community donations and is absolutely free for everyone,” the Eozzos said.

Additional information can be found on the Elk County Donation Station Facebook page.
