JOHNSONBURG-It proved to be a short agenda for the Johnsonburg Borough Council (JBC) on Monday night for once as an exception to the usual hours-long meetings.

Addressing an immediate need, the JBC voted unanimously to purchase a new, correctly specked-out pool heater for the Johnsonburg Community Center (JCC). The winning bid was from Seven Seas Pools and Spas of Clarion at the cost of $5,689, which includes installation and a seven-year warranty. Members of the Johnsonburg Recreation Board thanked the Council for their quick response.

Police Chief John Clopp reported 198 calls for service during February, with 59 signal calls and 56 telephone calls making up that total. A total of 37 investigations were launched, resulting in 14 arrests, six of which were for motor vehicle offenses. Family and Children calls remained the number one offense in the borough, with drugs taking a surprising drop down to two crimes investigated. DUIs were also down from the previous history, with a total of two arrests. Chief Clopp has applied for the Elk County Commissioners Act 13 Funding for a new set of tasers for the department. The winners of this twice-a-month program will be announced next month. Chief Clopp thanked his officers and two deputies from the Elk County Sheriff's Office for providing security for last month's annual Johnsonburg Fire Department Gun Bash. Johnsonburg Police Officers participated in an Emergency Response Training & Certification Association (ERTCA) program at the St. Marys Fire Hall on February 23, with all officers participating in a 30-minute, seven scenario, virtual reality training that immersed the officers in a variety of real-life situations.

While the Johnsonburg Borough Street Crew is still plowing and salting roads as necessary in this mild winter, they are already looking forward to spring and have performed much-needed maintenance on several of the street sweepers. They also attended Confined Space training, and all workers who needed it received their certifications.

Under Borough En-gineer Ryan Miller's report. he noted that Kinkead Construction has completed work on the JCC sanitary sewer project with the portion of the sewer crossing the parking lot area re-placed and backfilled. enabling access to the 24-hour weight room facility once again. TranSystems has be. gun to review the Final Design for the Flood Studies Report, which is expected to be com-pleted in the next two months. Miller is final-izing the specifications for the remaining West End Stormwater Proj-ect. which will be adver. tised by the county once completed. Bucktail Ex. cavators has completed the slum and blight de-molition of 704 Bridge Street, with the home being cleared, dead pine trees removed, and the site graded and seeded. Miller is also currently working on the final de-velopment of the park-ing lot at the corner of Second Avenue and Spruce Street with the Road crew. Once com-pleted, the county will advertise the project as it is primarily being funded through CDBG Program funds. The Re-pository property locat-ed at 307 High Street, which was approved for purchase at the Octo-ber 2022 JBC meeting, has entered the process of being sold. Buyers are reminded that all notices, including the uninhabitable posting and code compliance, will transfer to the new owner. The JBC is considering contacting the Elk County Tax Claim Bureau about situations like this and is considering adding language to their deeds to account for this in the future.
