Athletes from Elk- Cameron County compete in Special Olympic Swim Meet 2023
Over 50 athletes from McKean Warren, Potter and Elk Counties gathered at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford's Sport and Fitness center on Friday March 3, 2023, for the Annual Special Olympic Swimming Invitational. The invitational is the culmination of the swimming season for most of the athletes who have been training for several months. Some of of these athletes will be advancing to the Pennsylvania Special Olympics Summer Games at Penn State, June 8-10, 2022. The coaches of these athletes were Angela Sorg, Beth Kronenwetter, Rachel Hepburn, Tom Szymanski, and Kathy Rigard. The athletes practiced at the Johnsonburg Community
Center. Results are as follows:
Theresa Vanetten:First place for 15 yd walk, 15 yd unassisted swim, 15 yd assisted swim.
Randy Johnson: First place for 15 yd walk, 15 yd assisted swim, 15 yd swim with float.
Jeff Knight:3rd place 15 yd walk, 4th place 15 yd assisted swim, 3rd place 15 yd swim with float.
Ed Maletta:4th place 15 yd walk, 3rd place 15 yd assisted swim, 4th place 15 yd swim with float.
Tim Johnson:2nd place 15 yd unassisted swim, 2nd place 15 yd assisted swim, 3rd place 25 yd swim with float.
Lee Johnson:2nd place 15 yd assisted swim, 2nd place 15 yd swim with float, 2nd place 25 yd swim with float.
Seth Carberry:2nd place 15 yd unassisted swim, 1st place 15 yd assisted swim, 1st place 25 yd swim with float.
Kristen LaBella:1st place: 25 yd freestyle (30.31), 25 yd backstroke (37.34), 50 yd backstroke (1:26.38).
Ty Syzmanski:2nd place 25 yd freestyle (23.53), 1st place 25 yd backstroke (23.21), 1st place 50 backstroke (49.16).
Brad Syzmanski:1st place 25 yd freestyle (34.19), 2nd place 25 yd backstroke (1:06.40), 2nd place 50 freestyle (1:25.15).
Tim Taylor:2nd place all events: 25 yd freestyle (21.47), 25 yd backstroke ( 25.94), 50 freestyle (46.56).
