Ridgway Moose to host benefit for Carla Boni

- By Jake Mercer Staff Writer

RIDGWAY- The Ridgway Moose will be holding a chicken barbecue benefit dinner for Carla Boni on March 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out.

Boni’s journey started when she went to see her care providers to treat what was thought of as a routine migraine. However, there were some signs that Boni displayed that showed that this could possibly be more than just a migraine, as she lost vision in both of her eyes and dexterity in her left hand. Boni’s Physician Assistant, Carolyn Miller, had seen some things that were of concern and urged Boni to get an eye test as well as a CT scan. The eye test confirmed Boni’s loss of sight, and she was then sent to UPMC Kane for a CT scan.

Unfortunately, medical professionals had discovered a mass on her brain. Boni's husband, Robin, credited Miller for her swift actions in getting the scan done.

“She really did us good,” Robin said. “She wanted us to go to the ER and get the scan done right away.”

Four days after the mass was found, Carla had surgery on January 16 and has continued to progress in her recovery.

Since this situation has occurred, the Boni’s have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from the local community.

“The amount of people that reached out to us was unbelievable,” said Robin. “We are very grateful for the community that we live in.”

He also spoke very highly of the Ridgway Moose Club, of which he has been a member for over 35 years.

President of the Ridgway Moose, Carl Marnatti, wanted to thank the community for their continued support for these the benefits they put on and continues to ask for community support to make this a successful endeavor.

Marrnatti added that the Moose is likely going to host types of chicken barbecues every other month during the summer due to the rising costs of goods that make these benefits possible.

Marnatti also urged those who plan on getting meals to get in touch with people who are in charge of a future barbecue so that they know how much food to prepare, rather than having any extras left over. Delivery will also be made available.

The Ridgway Moose continues to play a vital role to help community members in need and want to continue to do so going forward.
