Ridgway Elks present checks from Greg Maddalena benefit
RIDGWAY- The second annual Greg Maddalena spaghetti dinner benefit was a success once again this year, and proceeds generated from this benefit went towards Ridgway Rec. Soccer and the Lyle G. Hall Community Pool splash pad.
Maddalena was very involved in both the Ridgway YMCA and all things associated with Ridgway Soccer and his impact is still felt with each.
Todd Greiner of the Ridgway Elks was happy to host this benefit that was held in late
February.
“I’m happy to be a part of the Elks to do this and keep Greg’s name going,” Greiner said. “Greg was all about helping those in the community.”
Mary Lynne Belotti reflected on what it was like to be around Maddalena and is proud that his legacy will live on through the splash pad project.
“He was a friendly face who you could always talk to and joke with,” Belotti said. “He sat on our board for many years and it means the world that Greg’s memory will be down at the community with this project.”
This event was sponsored by Elk County Foods, of which Maddalena was a dedicated employee for several years. He was described as someone who “was like family” and the store continues to be dedicated to keeping his memory alive.
Greg Petrosky of the Ridgway Area Soccer Association (RASA) talked about the profound impact that Maddalena had on RASA and the Ridgway girls soccer program.
“He left huge shoes to fill,” Petrosky said. “It’s hard to raise funds with a small group so it’s very appreciated when the Elks has us in mind for these fundraisers.”
Greg Maddalena’s influence on the Ridgway community will be felt for years to come through the endeavors of the Ridgway YMCA and RASA.
