Herzing and Sorg to participat­e in YMCA games

Ridgway head coach Eric Herzing and Elker senior Aaron Sorg are among the 48 participan­ts in the Apr. 2 YMCA/YDL Sports Network AllStar basketball games at the Clarion County YMCA. Played by seniors, the games have been held the past three years.

Elk County Catholic’s Adam Straub, Izzy Catalone, and Tanner Fox from St. Marys are included in the lineups, as is Lady Dutch head coach Michael Franciscus.

The four captains selected players from across Districts 9 and 10 on Sunday night. Otto-Eldred’s Katie Sheeler and Alivia Huffman from Redbank Valley made the selections for the girls. The boys were chosen by North Clarion’s Aiden Hartle and Clayton Cook from Brookville.

While Sorg will play on Team Cook. Herzing and North Clarion’s Mike Brown will guide Team Hartle, which includes Straub and Fox. Catalone was selected by Team Huffman, coached by Franciscus and DuBois Central Catholics Jordan Hoover.

The girls will tip off at 2 p.m. and the boys at 3:45 p.m.

Domenic Allegretto scored 10 points and Elker teammate Dan Park eight last year after being selected by DuBois Central Catholic’s Alec Srock, which lost 100-86 to the squad picked by Brookville’s Griffin Ruhlman. ECC’s Luke Jensen and Charlie Breindel scored 14 and 13 points, respective­ly, for the winners.

Johnsonbur­g’s Kaci Stelene scored six points last year for the team selected by Emma Ruhlman from Warren, which fell 79-64 to the All-Stars picked by Brockway’s Selena Buttery. Caskey scored two points for the winners.

In 2021, Kyla Johnson (8 pts.) and Samantha Hayes represente­d St. Marys in the White team’s 7769 win. Elk Catholic’s Mark Kraus scored 24 points (game-high) in his White team’s 116-107 loss. Carson Whiteman from Kane scored four points for the winning Blue squad.
