Matheson begins his role on Ridgway Borough Council
RIDGWAY - In November’s municipal election for Elk County, Chris Matheson was on the ballot as a candidate for the Ridgway Borough Council and received enough votes to serve on borough council.
This will be Matheson’s first term on borough council, as he reflected on why he chose to run.
“I personally just wanted to be involved,” Matheson said. “You cannot truly affect change unless you are willing to be.”
He added that several borough residents asked if he would consider running in the previous election cycle before November’s election but he said the timing was not right.
According to Matheson, the appropriate time came in this cycle.
For those who are not as familiar with Matheson as a person, he described himself as a “family man” who prides himself on honesty and integrity.
As he begins this new venture on borough council, he would like to see public participation in the borough council meetings increase.
“I think it is important for borough residents to be involved and aware,” Matheson said.
Matheson looks forward to working with council and committee members on issues that include infrastructure on Ridgway, budgetary matters, and making an effort to increase tourism into town.
Matheson sees immense value in trying to make Ridgway a better place for all community members to live in.
“I heard one of the council members say in a meeting that what we do on council is just a small part of what we do in this community,” Matheson said. “This is so true.”
He continued by saying that he has felt the great support from the community, especially when his family has had to face hardships over the last three to four years.
Matheson credits support from his wife, Ali,as she constantly encouraged him while he made his run for borough council, along with close supportive family and friends.
“I will serve our community with integrity,” Matheson said.
Matheson and his colleagues on the Ridgway Borough Council look forward to serving the Ridgway community this year and into the future.
