Lady Elkers, ECC seek title berths
Wins tonight by two-seed Ridgway (195) and top-seeded Elk County Catholic (23-2) would advance them to Saturday's District 9 Class A championship game at PennWest Clarion.
The Lady Elkers play three-seed DuBois Central Catholic (1310) at Brockway High School after the 6 p.m. 2A semifinal between two-seed Moniteau (175) and the three-seed Coudersport (17-5). The Lady Crusaders play five-seed Clarion (1410) at Brookville High School at 7 p.m.
With five teams advancing to next week's PIAA tourney, tonight's four competitors have clinched spots. Fourseed North Clarion (178) and six-seeded Port Allegany (18-7) meet on Thursday to decide the final spot.
Ridgway vs. DCC
The Lady Elkers won the first two meetings.
On Jan. 26 in DuBois, they rallied from a 13-point deficit in their 51-48 victory. Jenna Kasmierski scored 19 points, Kristen Ellenberger eight, Gabby Amacher and Grace Bon seven, Emma Vargas six, and Sophia Fullem four. Kayley Risser led the Lady Cardinals with 16 points.
In Ridgway on Feb. 3, Kasmierski finished with 24 points, Ellenberger 10, Amacher seven, Fullem five, Vargas four, and Sara Zameroski four. Emma Elensky (12 pts) and Risser (10 pts) had double-digit games for DCC.
The Lady Elkers beat Northern Potter 58-28 in the quarters. The victory was their ninth in 10 games. ECC had stopped an eightgame win streak with a 33-21 home win in the AML semifinals. The victory was the third over Ridgway for the Lady Crusaders. DuBois Catholic ended the regular season with a 52-37 home win over Clarion and beat Port
Allegany 70-49 in last week's quarterfinals.
ECC vs. Clarion
It's the first meeting between the teams.
The Lady Crusaders won their eighth straight – 50-22 over Otto-Eldred in the quarterfinals.
Clarion earned a 40-37 win at four-seed North Clarion (16-8) on Thursday.
