State’s Latino Film Se­ries Fea­tures Free­dom Writ­ers

The next film in the Latino Film Se­ries at The State The­atre in Modesto is the Richard LaGrave­nese film Free­dom Writ­ers. A true story that’s worth telling, the film fol­lows a ded­i­cated Cal­i­for­nia teacher as she tries to unify her dis­ad­van­taged, racially di­vided stu­dents. Hi­lary Swank and Pa­trick Dempsey star in this en­gag­ing in­spira- tional drama set dur­ing the time of the 1992 race ri­ots in Los An­ge­les.

The movie is sched­uled for Sun­day, Aug. 5 at 1 p.m. and The State is at 1307 J St., down­town Modesto.
