Free Com­puter Classes At The River­bank Li­brary

River­bank Li­brary is work­ing to ad­dress com­mu­nity needs by of­fer­ing in­struc­tion on the basics of nav­i­gat­ing com­put­ers and the In­ter­net.

Start­ing this month, com­mu­nity mem­bers in­ter­ested in im­prov­ing their com­puter skills will have an op­por­tu­nity to do so at the River­bank Li­brary. In­di­vid­u­als can en­roll in free work­shops de­signed to help them learn to nav­i­gate com­put­ers and the In­ter­net.

Com­puter Basics classes will be of­fered on Thurs­days, Aug. 9 and Sept. 6 at 10:30 a.m. This class will of­fer a ba­sic in­tro­duc­tion to com­put­ers, in­clud­ing an ex­pla­na­tion of the parts of a com­puter, a tour of Mi­crosoft Win­dows, and sim­ple tasks. In­struc­tion is avail­able in both English and Span­ish.

In­ter­net Basics classes will be held on Thurs­days, Aug. 23 and Sept. 20 at 10:30 a.m. The work­shop will in­tro­duce par­tic­i­pants to the In­ter­net and the World Wide Web, with in­struc­tion on how to search on the web.

“We’ve had many cus­tomers re­quest ba­sic com­puter classes. We think se­niors es­pe­cially would ben­e­fit from them,” said Vic­to­ria Holt, River­bank Li­brary su­per­vi­sor. “Ver­bal bilin­gual in­struc­tion will be avail­able dur­ing this class, as needed.”

Ad­vance reg­is­tra­tion is re­quired for all com­puter classes. Space is lim­ited. For more in­for­ma­tion or to sign up, call the River­bank Li­brary at 209-869-7008.

There will be an Art Lab on Tues­day, Aug. 14 at 3:30 p.m. where young­sters will make col­lages out of maps from all over the world. The li­brary will pro­vide var­i­ous art sup­plies to make mixed me­dia works of art.

The but­ton maker will be avail­able to make map but­tons.
