River Clean-Up Ef­fort Slated

The U.S. Army Corps of En­gi­neers Stanis­laus River Parks, is host­ing Na­tional Pub­lic Lands Day on Satur­day, Sept. 22, pro­vid­ing free en­try to day-use ar­eas for all par­tic­i­pat­ing vol­un­teers.

This year’s event be­gins at 8 a.m. and con­cludes at 12:30 p.m. with vol­un­teers par­tic­i­pat­ing in a va­ri­ety of projects such as trail main­te­nance, shore­line clean-up, lit­ter re­moval and camp­ground beau­ti­fi­ca­tion. Vol­un­teers must wear ap­pro­pri­ate work at­tire, in­clud­ing closed-toed shoes or boots, long pants and shirts that help shield from the el­e­ments. Tools will be pro­vided; vol­un­teers are en­cour­aged to bring prop­erly fit­ted work gloves.

Vol­un­teers par­tic­i­pat­ing in the Corps of En­gi­neers Sacra­mento District Na­tional Pub­lic Lands Day events will re­ceive a coupon for a free day-use pass valid for one year at any fed­eral park.

Lo­cally, vol­un­teers are be­ing sought for a clean-up project at the Orange Blos­som Recre­ation Area, Stanis­laus River Parks, in Oak­dale.
