Drew Magary

For over a decade, Magary wrote for the sports website Deadspin, whose editors quit en masse in 2019 and went on to launch Defector the following year. Magary is now a columnist there and for Sfgate. He’s the author of the novels The Postmortal, The Hike, and Point B. His latest book is The Night the Lights Went Out, his memoir about the nearfatal brain hemorrhage that left him comatose for two weeks and half deaf for life. In “Gimme Shelter” (page 118), he writes about driving an Audi e-tron GT to the Greenbrier bunker in West Virginia.
