The Grgich Hills Estate 2015 Paris Tasting
Commemorative Chardonnay (grgich.com) drinks like a white Burgundy and is made in the style Miljenko Grgich remembers from the time of the 1976 Judgment of Paris that put Napa Valley on the wine map. It also celebrates Grgich’s contributions to that event.
The grapes are grown in the estate’s oldest block of Chardonnay, and acid is balanced with richness but not too much oak. While 2015 challenged California growers with drought and erratic temperatures, the smaller berries were survivors, full of verve. —JANICE O’LEARY
