For this month’s Robb Report, he surveyed experts on their advice for buying and managing a sports team (“For the Love of the Game,” p. 82). “One thing I learned on this story is that most team owners are self-made men and women who got where they are on brains alone,” he says. “A surprising number are first- or second-generation immigrants. These leagues aren’t old boys’ clubs, where a pedigree gets you places. For the most part, these folks clawed their way into the owner’s box.”
