ROBB RECOMMENDS...
In Formula 1, where 1,000 hp race cars battle at over 200 mph, memories happen fast. Freezing time on F1’s first 71 seasons, from 1950 to 2020, publishing house Assouline has captured the sport’s 100 most unforgettable moments in its massive new compendium Formula1:The ImpossibleCollection.
Author Brad Spurgeon, who made every selection for the 228-page tome, was well-suited for such a Herculean task, having spent more than two decades covering the sport for The NewYorkTimes and International HeraldTribune and attending nearly every race during his run. It’s a page-turner start to finish, recounting iconic moments such as a 22-yearold Bruce McLaren’s legacy-starting victory at Sebring in 1959; the 1989 Japanese Grand Prix collision between teammates and archrivals Ayrton
Senna and Alain Prost, both with the championship within reach, which was ultimately awarded to Prost due to Senna’s later disqualification; and Lewis Hamilton taking the checkered flag at the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix to tie Michael Schumacher for most driver’s titles after already setting a new record for overall wins.
All the action is complemented by 175 images that famed motorsport photographer Bernard Asset helped curate. Each copy is priced at $995 and presented in a clamshell case.
