Idon’t know about you, but I’m fascinated by uorescent rocks. Maybe it has to do with my childhood when uorescent clothes and accessories were all the rage. Honestly, I couldn’t wear enough of it. I’m sure people could see me coming a mile away! Or maybe it’s because uorescent is just cool, no matter what your age. Either way, the science behind it also gives me pause. It’s always weird to think of atoms moving in an inanimate object. It just proves that Mother Nature is awesome!
If you’re attending the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, you’ll see that uorescent rocks are highlighted in the theme “e Show that Glows!” I’ve also noticed that many upcoming local rock and gem shows will have uorescent displays, so if you can’t make it to Tucson, you may be able to catch a cool display closer to home.
Our own, Richard Gross, has added to the wow factor of it all in this issue by providing us with a fabulous cover picture and Parting Shot images.
e natural light vs. ultraviolet light is highlighted on one page in the Parting Shot. I thought you also might like to see the before and a er that corresponds with our cover picture, so I’ve included that here. I hope you enjoy the compare and contrast between the two photos. e di erence is stunning.
Enjoy the rest of this rst-of-the-year issue. It’s jam-packed with goodies for everyone. It’s an issue worth keeping.
– Happy Rockhouding!
