Beyonce’́ s ‘Cowboy Carter’ includes ‘Jolene’ cover, with twist

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has given fans (and Dolly Parton) exactly what they’ve been waiting for: a cover of the country music legend’s hit 1973 single “Jolene.” But she’s put her own twist on it.

On her new album “Cowboy Carter,” Beyoncé first includes Parton on an interlude titled “Dolly P.” in which Parton refers to her as “Miss Honey Bey” and bridges the gap from Jolene to “Becky with the good hair” from Beyonc鐒s 2016 hit “Sorry.” In Parton’s version of “Jolene,” she pleads with a rival not to steal her man. However, Yoncé puts her own spin on the song, warning off her adversary with freestyle energy.

In the original version, Parton begs: I’m begging of you please don’t take my man

Beyoncé tweaks the tune, singing:

Beyoncé

I’m warnin’ you, don’t come for my man (Jolene)

LONDON – British-American filmmaker Christopher Nolan, fresh from his Oscar victory for historical drama “Oppenheimer,” will receive a knighthood from Britain for services to film.

His wife and film producer Emma Thomas will receive a damehood, the female equivalent of a knighthood, the British government said on Thursday in a list of honours recommended by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak that also included Conservative politicians and tech industry leaders.

“Oppenheimer,” a blockbuster biopic about the race to build the first atomic bomb, claimed seven Academy Awards earlier this month, including the best picture trophy and Nolan’s first best director Academy Award. His career includes other highly regarded films such as “Interstellar,” “Inception,” “Dunkirk” and the Batman trilogy.
