BELVIDERE - Alan Joe Bednar, age 71, died peacefully in his home on the morning of March 21, 2024. Born on September 24, 1952 to Richard and Viola (Slatinsky) Bednar in Downers Grove, IL. He grew up in Downers Grove with his brother, Richard, and graduated from Downers Grove North High School. In 1974 he earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineerin­g from Bradley University and began a long career in electrical engineerin­g and computer science, settling down in Rockford, IL.

In the spring of 1983, while working for the Barber-Coleman company, Alan met the woman who would lead him to God and become his wife. After a brief courtship, Alan married Kimberley Stewart on November 12, 1983.

Alan was a man of many passions. A devoted follower of God, and a deeply dedicated husband and father. He was also a lifelong learner with an interest in engineerin­g, woodworkin­g, gardening, and cooking. He obtained his small pilot’s license and built and flew his own ultralight plane. He was always working on personal projects, and enjoyed the problem solving that came with designing and maintainin­g his home.

Alan is preceded in death by his parents and grandparen­ts, and is survived by his wife Kimberley Bednar, his son David (Abagail) Bednar, grandchild­ren Evan and Madeline Bednar, brother Richard (Karen) Bednar, and many nieces and nephews.

Alan’s visitation will be between the hours of 5-7pm on Wednesday, April 3rd at Anderson Funeral Home. Located at 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. Belvidere, IL 61008.

A second visitation will be Thursday, April 4th at 10am at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Funeral service to follow at 11am. Located at 1045 Belvidere Rd, Belvidere, IL 61008. Burial to follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery.
