LIL UZI VERT

ETERNAL ATAKE

-

AFTER SPENDING the past couple of years in recordlabel purgatory, the gifted Philly rapper returned with this beast of a comeback, based around a loose alienabduction theme and spilling his spaced-out vision over three dazzling sides. Eternal Atake is shattering one moment and slippery the next — an LP where a riff on the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way” coexists with a jittery track built around the music from Microsoft Windows’ video game Space Cadet 3D Pinball. Throughout it all, Lil Uzi Vert’s steamrolling force never lets up: “Lo Mein” has all the frills of a battering ram, and even his ballads hit like a brick through your window.
