A shaggy-cop sitcom starring Hal Linden as a sane man in an increasingly insane city. Barney’s diverse unit of cranky detectives (played by, among others, Ron Glass, Abe Vigoda, Jack Soo, and Steve Landesberg) rarely left the squad room and mostly did paperwork, offering one of TV’s most realistic depictions of police work, as well as one of the funniest.
