Farruko’s Sunlit Urbano Experiment
PUERTO RICAN REGGAETON veteran Farruko has always been a step ahead of his urbano peers: His 2019 album, Gangalee, showcased the sunlit reggae and dembow rhythms that dominated the airwaves that year. Now, his streaming behemoth “Pepas” is leading a wave of propulsive reggaeton fused with jolting electronic production and thundering club beats. It’s one of the peaks on his upcoming album, La 167, an emotional tribute to his grandfather that’s also an uninhibited genre experiment, riffing on styles like dancehall, EDM, and even salsa, while building on the unwavering momentum of “Pepas.”
