The green boa that Maggie Rogers wears in the video for her recent single “That’s Where I Am” became a focal point in illustrato­r Jody Hewgill’s “visual response” to the singer’s new album, Surrender (Reviews, p. 117). “I liked the metaphor of surrenderi­ng to one’s desire," Hewgill says. “And to the chaos of a situation that’s out of your control.” For her, the green boa symbolized “something luxurious that covers, but that also represents an artificial embellishm­ent.” Hewgill, who has worked with Rolling Stone since 2000, nailed that sultry, seductive look in her portrait of Rogers.
