Old Ways Demonstration
Day will be Sept. 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home, 501 Riverside Parkway. Demonstrations of old time skills and crafts that the Ridge family and early settlers had to know in order to live will be on display, as well as spinners, weavers, basketmaking, quilters, carvers, chair caning and more. Craftsmen will have handmade items to purchase and there will be activities for kids at a small fee. Storytellers Christie Davis and Terrell Shaw will be spinning some tall tales and musicians Gary Greene, Lynn Baines and Phil Helton will be playing old tunes for you to

The Armuchee Ruritan Club’s Fall Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show and Swap
Meet will be Sept. 8 at Ridge Ferry Park located on Riverside Parkway. The gate will open at 8 a.m., registration will begin at 11 a.m., and awards will be presented at 2 p.m. The registration fee is $25 per vehicle. All registered participants must provide and pay for their own insurance. Goody bags will be distributed to the first 50 entrants; the first 100 registered vehicles entered will receive a dash plaque. T-shirts will be given to entrants who register by
Sept. 1. Those wishing to participate as vendors or in the car corral or swap meet must pay a registration fee of $10. The club will operate a concession stand. The Georgia School for
the Deaf will offer free American Sign Language classes on-campus with intermediate ASL class on Sept. 10 and the basic ASL class on Sept. 11. The time of both classes is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The instructor of the class, Dean Evans, is a certified ASL interpreter and is the staff interpreter at the Georgia School for the Deaf. The Constitution Day Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 15, at The Forum in downtown Rome. The Rome chapter of NAMI will have a free, comprehensive 12-week course designed for families of people with major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, panic disorder, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End
Alzheimer’s will be Sept. 22 at the Dalton Depot in Downtown Dalton. Those interested will participate in a 5K walk/run and will learn more about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical trial enrollment, and support programs and services of the Alzheimer’s Association.
