Augustus McGhee Wilson,

90, died July 29, 2015. Daniel’s Funeral Home has charge of the arrangemen­ts. of 57 years, Dolora Nolan Lloyd; his brother, Vann Lloyd; his sisters, Frances Webb and Lucille Shaw.

Mr. Lloyd served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II, 1944-1946, serving eighteen months in the Pacific area aboard the U.S.S. Duchess as a Radarman 3rd Class. He participat­ed in the invasion of Okinawa and the occupation of Japan. He was also a former Sargent in the Rome USMC Reserve. Member of the Woodsmen of the World, American LegionShan­klin-Attaway Post 5 and Berry Alumni Associatio­n. He retired from Georgia Kraft Company after 32 1/2 years.

Survivors include his daughters, Lynn Batts and Lila Farless; six grandchild­ren and nine great grandchild­ren.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at Oaknoll Chapel with The Reverend Mike Stinson and Bishop Nick Filetti officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kathryn Roussel Dupuy, 89, of Rome, died on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, after a long illness.

She was born in Memphis, TN, in 1925 to George Albert and Kathryn Ryan Roussel.

She was a chemistry teacher at Warren Central High School, in Vicksburg MS where she lived for 52 years. She moved to Rome in 2002 and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Rome.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, James A. Dupuy; children/ daughters, Kathryn (Gil) Russell, Bartlett, TX, Mary Millard, Minneapoli­s, MN, Jamie (Steve) Safigan, Rome, GA; six grandchild­ren: Anna, Molly, Andrew, Caleb, Ingrid and Davin; three great-grandchild­ren: Eva, Lily and Cara; one sister, Polly Raymond of Laurel, MD; and a sister-in-law, Yvonne Dupuy, Natchitoch­es, LA.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Daniel’s Funeral Home, 901 E 2nd Ave, Rome, GA.

Augustus McGhee Wilson

Augustus McGhee Wilson “Gus,” age 90 died Wednesday July 29th at home surrounded by his loving family.

Gus was born in Rome on March 29, 1925 to Forney McFerrin Wilson and Jessie May McGhee Wilson and lived here most of his life.

He attended Neely School on Clock Tower Hill and graduated from Darlington School in 1942. After attending the University of Georgia for one year, he joined the US Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II.

After his service, he continued his education in Athens and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1948. He returned to Rome and worked at the John Deere dealership. While working at John Deere he and his wife, Mary Frances McArver, began dating. They were married on March 6, 1949 at her home in Coosa.

When Rome Kraft paper mill opened in Rome, Gus was one of the first men hired retiring after 33 years. After retirement, Gus volunteere­d with Rome Urban Ministries’ food pantry picking up bread & etc. from Kroger. He also distribute­d bread to Hospitalit­y House serving on their board for several years, and to the Open Door Home.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Frances; his four children: Kathy Wilson Smith, Susan Wilson Lovell, William McFerrin “Mac” Wilson and John McCall Wilson (Pamela); ten grandchild­ren: Major (Ret.) USMC Andrew Q. Smith (Allyson), Paige Smith Burke (Brandon), Jennifer Lovell Morrison (Jim), Mitchell Smith, Adam Smith (Alison), Ghee Wilson (Lindsey), Whitney Wilson, Lane Wilson, Rick Lovell and Christina Hovarth (Austin); and 11 greatgrand­children, Rich, Emma Kate, Quin, Ava Grace, Ryan, Ella, Georgia, Reagan, Drew, Lawson & Sawyer.

Gus was a member of the Mt. Pleasant UMC and was a founding member of the Sardis Preservati­on Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Virginia Wilson, his sons in law Arbie Lovell and Sammy Smith and daughter in law Renae Kilgore Wilson.

His grandsons along with Glenn Brown and Jeff Sprayberry will serve as pallbearer­s.

The service will be conducted by Rev. James Hannah and Rev. Michael Stinson with a eulogy given by his oldest grandson, Andrew. Rev. Michael Holt will conduct the graveside service.

The family will receive friends at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 1st 2015 from 1-3 pm with funeral services at 3 pm. Interment will follow in the family lot at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. At other hours the family will be at the residence.

Mr. Benjamin Pritchard Lucas, Sr., age 94, of Rome passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015 at a local hospital.

Funeral Services for Mr. Lucas will be held at 2 pm on Sunday at Fellowship Baptist Church, 314 Burnett Ferry Road, Rome, GA with Dr. Dale LeVan and Mr. Jim Lucas officiatin­g. The family will receive friends at Fellowship Baptist Church on Saturday, August 1, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Jeanette Burton Hughes

Mrs. Jeanette Burton Hughes, age 61, of Rome, GA, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia.

Mrs. Hughes was born in Charleston, South Carolina on December 16, 1953, daughter of the late Charles Richard Burton and the late Louise Huether Burton. Mrs. Hughes grew up in the Coosa community of Rome, where she went to the Coosa Schools, graduating from Coosa High School in 1972. She attended the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church where she played piano. She graduated with her Master’s degree in Special Education from San Francisco State University in California, and her Bachelor’s degree as a Speech Language Pathologis­t from the University of South Carolina at Columbia. She taught Special Education and Sign Language in Anchorage and Valdez, Alaska and in Rome and Lawrencevi­lle, Georgia. She enjoyed The Shepherd’s Chapel church study, gardening, playing piano, and spending time with her family and two Yorkshire terriers, Tia and Bella.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Hughes of Dacula; her son, Branden Hughes of Atlanta; a brother, Bobby Burton of Pensacola, Florida; a sister, Barbara Odom of Cartersvil­le, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Sunday, August 2, 2015, from 2 until 5 pm.
