The Burnett Ferry Quick Stop is looking for the lucky winner.

Someone who bought a lottery ticket in Rome this week is gong to have a big Christmas, more than $500,000 big.

A Fantasy 5 lottery ticket was purchased at the Burnett Ferry Quick Stop, 500 Burnett Ferry Road; however, the winner has not stepped forward to claim the prize.

Store owner Rimi Singh said he got a text message around 10:30 a.m. Friday from his Georgia Lottery sales representative, informing him that his store sold the winning ticket for the Thursday night drawing worth $509,761.

The winning numbers were 6-12-25-29-34.

“We really have no idea who has the winning ticket,” Singh said. The store does not receive any kind of bonus from the Georgia Lottery for selling a winning Fantasy 5 ticket.

The store had been closed for remodeling for nearly four months before reopening two weeks ago. Singh purchased the building and began remodeling the interior in June.

“We have had real good response,” he said. “Our lottery sales are very good. $509,761 is good for someone.”

After taxes, that would amount to something in the neighborhood of $277,310 depending on the winner’s tax filing status.

The building itself is close to 80 years old and was known as Hawkins Grocery for many years. Singh said he gets a lot of longtime West Rome families in the store who say they shopped at the small community grocery, at the corner of Burnett Ferry Road and Robinson Avenue, for decades.

In more recent years, it was operated as a Cowboy’s Food Mart, then a Kangaroo convenience store before being taken over by Singh.
