Floyd County commissioners are expecting a crowd Tuesday for a public hearing and decision on a controversial upscale recreational vehicle park.

Bill Gore’s proposed 81-space, $2.5 million Rice Springs RV Resort is slated for a vacant 21.5acre tract on Alabama Highway at Barker Road.

His application for a special use permit comes with opposition from nearby property owners, support from the Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau and a 7-2 recommendation of denial from the Rome-Floyd County Planning Commission.

“This is a neighborhood,” said planning commission member Logan Boss, before casting one of the seven “no” votes.

However, Boss also said he recognizes that Floyd County needs more spaces for tourists traveling by RV, and noted that Gore had tried to alleviate some of the residents’ concerns.

More than two dozen opponents have attended

the review sessions leading up to Tuesday’s vote, but Gore has mustered similar support from local RV-ers.

The County Commission starts its regular meeting at 6 p.m. in the County Administration Building, 12 E. Fourth Ave., following a 4 p.m. caucus. Both meetings are open to the public.

Several other public

hearings also are on the board’s agenda.

The planning commission unanimously recommended denial of Jessica House’s request for a permit to put a manufactured home in a Silver Creek subdivision on Tremont Drive.

House said the property came from her grandparents. However, it would be the only manufactured

home in the neighborhood of sitebuilt houses.

Also, Donald Evans is seeking office-institutional zoning for a 3.3-acre tract on Callier Springs Road between Eastview and Antioch cemeteries. His representative told the planning commission Evans has already donated the land to a church for use as their cemetery.
