Physician and meningitis vaccine expert Dr. Marc LaForce will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Berry College Krannert Ballroom. His lecture “Global Immunizati­on Programs: Workable Examples of Distributi­ve Justice” is part of the Cecil B. Wright III Integrity in Leadership Lecture Series. The Rome chapter of the National Alliance on Mental

Illness is offering NAMI Smarts, a free, three-block course that helps people become effective advocates. NAMI Smarts guides participan­ts through a process in order to develop a clear and short statement to persuade decision makers. The course will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the NAMI Trailer at 1 Woodbine Ave. Register by calling Jim at 706-506-5010.

The Rome affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness is offering a free educationa­l course on mental illness and recovery.
