SOFTBALL: Unity Christian 5, Praise Academy 4

Down 2-1 after the first inning, Unity Christian’s softball team pulled themselves out of a hole and hung on to defeated Praise Academy 5-4 in Powder Springs.

Keri Glass pitched a complete game for Unity and struck out 10 while also getting three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs in the region contest.

Raegan Moody had a double among her three hits as well as two RBIs, and Maggie Dyer had an RBI single.

Moody and Maddie Dorough turned an inning-ending double play in the third with the bases loaded.

Unity (3-1) will be back in action after spring break on April 10 hosting Cumberland Christian Academy.

TENNIS: Rockmart defeats Coosa

A pair of Region 7-AA schools took to the courts at the Rome Tennis Center on Friday as Rockmart’s girls’ and boys’ teams defeated Coosa.

Rockmart’s girls took four of five matches, with Emma Evans battling to a 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Mary Ella Owen won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2, and Taylor McVey won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

The Lady Jacket duo of Anna Smith and Alexis Clanton won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Coosa’s win came at No. 2 doubles where Sadie Hagen and Alexis Holmes came out on top 6-2, 6-4.

Rockmart swept the boys’ matches, going 5-0 starting with Timothy Malone at No. 1 singles winning 6-4, 6-1. Koby Adams fought to a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, and No. 3 singles went to Jackson Norris 6-0, 6-1.

In the doubles matches, the No. 1 team of Bennett Vest and Austyn Shelton won 6-2, 7-5, and the No. 2 team of Dawson Scoggins and Russell Head won 6-3, 6-4.

Both Rockmart teams are 10-1 this season and 5-0 against Region 7-AA teams.
