Drugs found at traffic stop

2 jailed; pot, pills, meth found

-

A man and a woman facing multiple drug charges were in jail without bond Sunday night.

According to Rome Police Department and Floyd County Jail records:

Christopher Cody Ely, 30, of 52 Blankenship Place, and Elisa Shae Highfield, 32, of 178 Cathy Lane, Calhoun, were arrested just before 3 a.m. Sunday on Shorter Avenue near Watson Street.

Police stopped the car Ely was driving because he was using the bright lights.

They saw him switch places with Highfield before they approached the vehicle. Highfield had a valid driver’s license, but Ely did not. He was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license and failure to dim his lights.

While the car door was open, officers smelled marijuana and a search turned up a tin containing marijuana, clonazepam

pills and methamphetamine. Ely and Highfield both denied ownership and were each charged with possession of meth, possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and drugs not kept in the original container.

A meth pipe and a capsule of meth also were found on Highfield during a strip search at the jail. She was additionally charged with possession of a drug-related object and crossing the guard line with drugs.
