Come Walk with a Doc on Broad this Saturday
Harbin Clinic doctors are stepping out to encourage Romans to get active this spring by taking part in the national Walk with a Doc program. The concept is simple, aimed at getting people on their feet, out in the community and healthier.
Monthly walks will commence Saturday, April 15 at Bridgepoint Plaza just off Second Avenue in Rome, at 9 a.m.
Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist Dr. Mary Margaret Beauchamp and pediatrician Dr. Caroline Yaphockun will lead the first walk.
The American Heart Association reports that one of the best ways to get started is to walk with a group. There is very little cost and it’s a relatively low-impact way to get some great exercise. All a walker needs is a pair of comfortable shoes.
“I’m writing a prescription for everyone to go outside and get moving,” Dr. Beauchamp says.
“This event allows us to exercise together and talk about various health interests.”
Walking can lower the risk of health problems like high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes, strengthening bones and muscles, helping burn extra calories and helping improve mood.
“I encourage my patients and their families to come out, enjoy the weather and get some exercise,” Dr. Yaphockun says.
Both doctors recently competed in the Harbin Clinic Leprechaun-athon 5K race.
