AIDS Resource Council

-

What is the purpose of your organization?

The AIDS Resource Council’s mission is to educate the community about HIV/AIDS, provide free testing and serve those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

How is your organization funded?

We are funded through local fundraising events, private donations and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

How did you obtain this position, and why did you pursue this position?

Our executive director’s husband became terminally ill, which resulted in her stepping down to take care of him, so I volunteered to take over her duties. I volunteer because I am HIV positive myself.

What do you enjoy most acting as head/part of this organization?

Helping people in need and public speaking engagements.

What is your organization’s biggest challenge?

The stigma associated with HIV and the ignorance of those not educated about HIV.

If the organization uses volunteers, in what capacity?

This organization runs solely through volunteerism. there are no paid employees.

Is there something you would like to say to our readers?

HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus, therefore no one is immune to the disease.
