Amy Astin honored with award for exceptional service
Amy Astin, Director of Volunteer Services at Floyd Medical Center, has received the Wyn Award from the Georgia Society for Volunteer and Retail Professionals for an unprecedented second time. The award, given at the discretion of the GSVRP Board, is presented to an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to society.
“Receiving this award is an absolute honor because I was chosen by my
peers from across all of Georgia,” Astin said. “It says a great deal about the professionalism of Floyd’s volunteer program and how we are regarded around the state.”
In addition to Astin’s receipt of the Wyn Award, Floyd’s Gift Shop received the society’s inaugural GSVRP Gift Shop Award. The award recognizes a hospital gift shop for innovation and a positive patient experience. Marla Baker, gift shop manager, was on hand to accept the award on behalf of the shop’s staff.
“We’ve long believed that our gift shop at Floyd is one of the best in the state, and this award validates that belief,” Astin said. “In addition to providing a service to our patients and guests on a daily basis, the gift shop also contributes to Floyd’s mission with an annual gift of more than $200,000 from shop proceeds.”
Along with the awards, Carolyn Falcitelli, Floyd Auxiliary Manager, was named GSVRP Conference CoChair.
The purpose of the GSVRP is to promote and enhance the practice of administrators of organized volunteer programs in a health care organization by providing educational programs, networking opportunities and recognizing service and program excellence.
