Florida Tile property sold 2 purchasers pay a total of $1.9M
The former Florida Tile property off Ga. 53 northeast of Rome has been sold by Caterpillar Inc. to a pair of Georgia companies registered in Atlanta and Carrollton.
What is planned for the property could not be determined Monday. The four tracts, a total of 171.07 acres, were sold for $1,922,000.
Atlanta-based HK Shannon LLC will control 37.5 percent of the property and Carrollton-based TTV&G Properties will control 62.5 percent.
Romecast Inc. purchased the property in 2013 for $4,485,800. Shortly after purchasing the property the new owners
requested bids for demolition of close to half of the buildings on the property.
Potential bidders were directed to contact Safe Metal in Lyon, France, for information about the bid specifications.
A Cobb County firm ultimately won the bid and demolished approximately 200,000 square foot of the old buildings.
The property was deeded to Caterpillar in 2015 for $3,381,974 and has been on the market since then.
The company said demand for products made by their prospective
supplier in Rome had diminished, forcing them to abandon plans for the site.
Rome-Floyd Building Inspection Director Howard Gibson told members of the Rome Community Development committee Monday that his office had been getting some inquiries about the cost of
various permits related to development on the site, but did not offer any details. He later told the Rome News-Tribune that no one had yet made a formal permit application.
The site still contains the metal skin of the old Florida Tile building and several additions.
