Driver flees the scene of wreck

Police and emergency personnel were dispatched to what appeared to be a serious wreck on Mount Alto Road around 6:30 Monday night but when they got there, the driver and a passenger were gone. The gray Nissan Quest van was severely damaged.

According to Floyd County police on the scene:

The van was headed toward the mountain on Mount Alto Road, veered out of control, went off the west shoulder through a ditch, took down several mailboxes and crashed through a chain link fence before coming to a rest in bushes on the west side of the road.

Floyd County police officer Nathan Martin and Morgan Shortnacy said they had gotten several different reports about the driver and passenger from neighbors.

A woman who was standing in a yard closest to the wreck said she saw one man take off running east on McCrary Road and a another man take off in the opposite direction.

The van had DeKalb County, Alabama, tags.

Man charged with damaging property

A Silver Creek man was arrested Monday at his home on Wax Road after damaging a door and a cell phone.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Glenn Rodriguez, 20, of 295 Wax Road, was arrested around 9 a.m., about a half hour after intentiona­lly causing damages to a woman’s cell phone and the front door to his own residence.

Rodriguez was charged with felony criminal damage to property in the second degree and was being held in the Floyd County jail Monday night without bond.

Police: Child was in car when it was stolen

A Rome man is charged with kidnapping and stealing a car after he took a woman’s Nissan Altima while a child was still in the car, reports stated.

The child was found unharmed, police said.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Demarcus Terrell Alexander, 27, of 22 Tammassee Lane, is charged with felony kidnapping, theft by taking motor vehicle, Dui and criminal trespass.

Alexander, who has been banned from 22 Tammassee Lane, reportedly took the woman’s car without her permission. Alexander had been drinking.

He was arrested Sunday and was being held on a $22,400 bond on Monday night.

Microwave, tools stolen from home

The owner of a home at 313 E. 15th St., said someone broke in the home and stole a microwave and some house repair items, reports stated.

According to Rome police reports:

The complainan­t stated they were in the process of renovating the home and noticed on Sunday that someone had broken into the home.

The items stolen included a Whirlpool microwave, a wet tile saw, HVAC vent covers, a bathroom mirror, rubber seal, a Rubbermaid hanging shelf, a bathroom faucet, a towel rack and a toilet paper rack.

The items were estimated worth $587.

3 injured when car strikes light post

Three people were taken for medical treatment after a 2005 Toyota Scion struck a light post and a power pole around 1 a.m. Sunday, reports stated.

According to Rome police reports:

A passenger said the driver fell asleep at the wheel and struck the light post and a power pole.

The driver Christine Stansell, 34, of 146 Oak Hill Place, Calhoun, was listed as seriously injured in the report. Two other passengers: Marcus Bullard, 33, of 1105 Martha Berry Blvd., and Helen Lee, 23, of 3 Orlystes Drive, were also taken for medical treatment.
