Coosa girls top Armuchee

Evelyne Cruz scored two goals to lift the Coosa girls’ soccer team to a 5-2 victory against Armuchee on Monday. The win sealed Coosa’s first winning season since 2010.

The Lady Eagles took an early 2-0 lead and led 3-1 at halftime.

Also for Coosa (9-6, 5-6), Emily Martin had one goal and two assists, Yeasania Aldana had one goal and one assist, and Jasmine Limon scored one goal. Goalkeeper Alexys Davis had five saves.

The Lady Eagles will finish a game that was rained out earlier this season today at 5 p.m. The game will pick up with 15 minutes left and Model leading 1-0.

Coosa boys 6, Armuchee 1

Jose Reyes, Eric Chavez and Julian Perez each scored two goals to help carry the Coosa boys’ soccer team to a 6-1 win against Armuchee on Monday.

Juan Cornejo stopped a penalty kick and had three saves for the Eagles.

Coosa will next face Pepperell on Thursday in Lindale to decide the Region 7-AA champion.

Pepperell boys 4, Rockmart 1

The Pepperell boys’ soccer team came away with a win Monday by defeating Rockmart 4-1.

Ramiro Alanis had a goal and an assist for the Dragons (11-4-1, 11-2), Lane Koch had one goal, Slamon Ghani had one goal, and Jimmy Rivera had one assist.

Goalkeeper Andrew Wilder had two saves for Pepperell.

The Dragons will next host Coosa on Thursday.

Rockmart girls 2, Pepperell 0

After an hour-long lightning delay, the Rockmart girls’ soccer team shut out the Pepperell Ladyt Dragons on Monday in a shortened contest.

Breanna Cullpepper had 10 saves in goal for Pepperell (4-11, 3-10).

The Lady Dragons will next host Coosa on Thursday.

GOLF: Model 155, Rome 188

Cooper Greer shot a 37 Monday to carry the Model boys’ golf team to a 155188 win against Rome High.

Jonathan Bryan recorded a 39 for Model, Grant Elliott shot a 39, and Cody Boazman had a 40.

For Rome, Sam Branton shot a 41, William Douglas had a 45, John Gusby shot a 47, and Ben Harrell carded a 55.

Model will next compete in the Floyd County Invitation­al today and Wednesday at Stonebridg­e Golf Club.
