- REV. CAREY N. INGRAM GUEST COLUMNIST The Rev. Carey N. Ingram is the pastor at Lovejoy Baptist Church.

Last week was a time of celebration as the Christian community reflected upon the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Holy Week Services, the Passion Play, the Seven Last Words of Christ and early Easter sunrise services reminded and encouraged us that “Jesus Lives.”

The scripture proclaims it: “And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said” (Matthew 26:5-6).

He lives in our heart, and his spirit dwells within us. That said, the question arises: What do we do with him? In a chaotic world full of uncertainties, what can we do to make a difference?

I suggest that we begin by keeping the faith.

In the words of Evangelist Oral Roberts: “Never doubt God in the dark, what he told you in the light.”

Know that God has a specific purpose for your life. Find and fulfill your destiny. Throughout life’s journey, remain positive. Instead of complaining to God about how big your problems are, tell your problems how big your God is, and that with him, you will succeed.

It is said that most people fail many times before they succeed at reaching their goals. Therefore, when it seems that things are not going as you planned, do not despair. Encourage yourself. Remember you and the Sovereign God are a majority.

Then know that life is not about you and material gains. Earthly treasures and pleasures are great, but you cannot take them with you. These things are only temporary.

It is said that a hundred years from now it will not matter what your bank account was, the kind of house you lived in, or the make of car you drove, but the world may be different because you impacted someone’s life positively. It might sound strange but the best life is acquired when we love God and our neighbors more than we love ourselves.

When Christ arose from the grave, He made two statements that give us the assurance of a victorious life: “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth…, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” (Matthew 28:1720). All He asks of us is to go and tell His story.

Because I know he holds the future, I also know he holds my hand. Because he lives, I will keep the faith, fulfill my destiny, forgive others as he forgives me, and love others as he loves me. Finally, because he lives, I will enjoy my life one step and one day at a time, preparing for his glorious return.
